The website has been subject to a few spamming and hacking attacks. Even though none of them have been successful, to counter them you can expect an update to secure the site and many new admin/mod abilities. A few bugs will also be fixed in this patch.

I believe that you will find that one of the attacks was in fact successful.

What they managed to do is a Slowloris DOS which slowed the website down.

The first update (of a few) has been released to try tackle spam. It fixes a few bugs and gives a little more power to admins and mods.

Spam sucks. I have experimented with various web software to go back and see that there were new members. And that there was spam everywhere. I eventually had to delete those websites, as there was no way to clear everything up. I feel for you. I think something that may help is some sort of recatchpa required for posting, like the one on the register page.
